Though life is full of reasons to smile, the act of smiling can cause lines to form around your mouth. Smile lines, also known as laughter lines, are the deep lines on either side of the lower half of your face that extend out from mouth. These lines appear because of the repeated muscle actions when you smile. They tend to be more pronounced on older people. The repetitive motion of smiling causes the skin to become lax, creating permanent creases. Smiling also wears down the tissue in that area of the face, creating a line that remains even after you stop smiling
Thankfully, it is possible to reduce the appearance of such wrinkles. The appearance of smile lines can be softened through injections of Dermal fillers, which fill out the skin from inside. Another way to resolve the lines is to lift the sagging skin back in to place with a thread-lift. The goal of treatment is to smooth out smile lines, leaving you looking younger and feeling refreshed.
At NU-U many of our patients undergo smile line injections in their lunch break and return to work immediately. Some of the results are visible immediately. Others take time to appear, as the dermal filler builds, evens out and settles during the weeks following treatment.
