The natural ageing process affects the facial bones. The upper jawbones that support your lips recede and this eventually results in a loss of support to the lips making them appear thinner and flatter. Over time this volume loss affects the upper lip more and people lose the outer red border of their lips (vermillion border) resulting in smaller lips lacking shape and definition.
Daily movement of your mouth is also a cause of upper lip wrinkle lines. This includes pursing the lips, talking, and contracting the muscles around the mouth during normal daily interactions. Smoking can also be a cause of upper lip wrinkles and will accelerate the formation of upper lip lines. It’s important to note that these so-called ‘smokers’ lines’ around the lips can appear even if you have never smoked.
Sun exposure is also one of the common causes of upper lip wrinkles forming. Due to the way your lips are positioned on your face, they can receive more sun exposure than other areas.
At NU-U we use one or a combination of Dermal fillers, toxin injections and PDO threads to improve the look of vertical lip lines in our clients.
