As we age the bones of our face become smaller and thinner. Our skin becomes less tight due to loss of collagen and elastin. All of this causes our skin to become a little saggy or “crepey”. Scientists have found that leaving PDO threads under this type of skin for several weeks can cause more collagen to be formed thus reversing some of the ill effect of aging on the skin.
PDO stands for Polydioxanone and is a material that has been used in the medical world for decades. PDO threads are an absorbable suture which can stay in the skin for up to 6 months. It encourages the tissue beneath skin to become firmer and reduces laxity and the appearance of fine lines.

Our experts
The Doctors at NU-U may use PDO threads on their own or in combination with other treatments to improve your skin. A series of threads are placed under the skin with a cannula to ensure minimal skin trauma. These combine to make a lattice under the skin which encourages the rejuvenation of the zone that supports the skin. Our Doctors have trained and developed their techniques over time to ensure the best possible results for you.
What to expect
The area to be treated has local anaesthetic cream applied to it. It is then cleansed and the area is measured and marked to ensure anatomical accuracy. The threads are placed under the skin with a cannula. Results are not seen for several weeks as the rebuilding process under the skin takes time. Once in place the threads dissolve over about 6 months gradually improving the skin and the effect can last for a year or more.
Aftercare
After having your treatment you are advised to avoid any rubbing of the area and to avoid any beauty treatments e.g. facial massage, Saunas and extreme temperatures for up to 2 weeks. For rejuvenation threads a 3-week review is not required unless it is combined with other treatments. We do however like to review you after 3 months to document the improvement in your skin.
